Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The speculation about The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
