One extended journey circling Australia was terminated in the wake of the death of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but separated from the party for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the personnel became aware the woman was not present.

A large-scale search operation found her person the next day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the remainder of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and earlier engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he added that guests would be issued a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the travelers via chartered flights".

Authorities also issued an latest announcement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Commander" banning any new passengers from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the vessel in Cairns upon its arrival.

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's death. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the itinerary.
