The Details Known About the Those Lost of the Bondi Terror Attack

No fewer than 16 individuals were killed and in excess of 40 were hurt when assailants opened fire at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, officials have announced the death toll is 16, which includes one of the alleged gunmen. Additionally, 42 injured people were taken to the hospital.

The victims have not yet been officially identified, but authorities state their ages span from 10 and 87 years old.

Listed are the victims who have been identified so far.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Reportedly a father-of-five, he was the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and acquaintances spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative said.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, as stated by his wife.

She recounted the moments before the shooting, explaining they were standing when the shooting erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently relocated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Publicly, a senior official declared that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the message read.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, according to police reports.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was a fatality in the incident, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

From the 42 people taken to hospital, many are still receiving treatment, with several in serious condition. The injured include two police officers who responded to the attack.

A wounded man is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the attackers. Called a hero, he received bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Reports indicate he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.

In a message, he described the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also noted the actions of those who rushed to help. He said he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the shooting. He told reporters he listened to “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
