The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
