The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
